Calliope No. 8 was started because I had a tendency to play a musical game of crazy 8s inspired by other audio posts in my neighborhood.  So, how do you play?

Take a look at the most recent post in the group.  Does it remind you of something in your own musical collection?  Something by the same artist?  Something with a similar subject?  Any sort of free association between songs is a-okay.  The only restriction is that you have to play your song against the most recent post to the group, so stay ready and keep your eyes peeled for the chance to throw in one of your favorites!

Just to give our posts that distinct "our meme is invading your neighborhood" feel, we usually name our posts like this:

Previous Song :: New Song

But if you find that aesthetically appalling somehow, don't feel like you have to play it our way.

P.S.  While there are Calliope members who believe in moderation, there are quite a few of us that are... shall we say...  a little compulsive about posting to the group.  We may just clog up your Groups page in the Vox Reader.  We apologize, but we now consider you to have been adequately warned.

Calliope FAQ:
Q: Ack!  I posted, only to find that someone had beaten me to it!  What do I do now?

A: Sometimes, when a posting frenzy gets going, the rules about what to post on break down and two people end up posting on the same song.  Don't panic.  We'll figure it out as we go.  Generally speaking, the addicts defer to those with moderate posting habits.

Q: How do I get the cool cover art into my audio tracks like you wizened old calliopeans have?

A:  The first thing you have to know is that (I think) only mp3 files support cover art here at Vox.  If you're really keen on cover art, you can usually find something to convert your file for you.

iTunes: To convert a track to an mp3 (if it isn't already) go to the "Advanced" menu and select (not surprisingly) "Convert Selection to MP3".

To add album art to a track, select a song and "Get Info" on it.  (For Apple folks, that's Cmd-I, for others, Ctrl-I or "File" > "Get Info".  If you're selecting multiple tracks, you'll automatically see a screen that has a little box for album art.  If you're just selecting one, you should go to the "Artwork" tab.

You can either double click on the blank area for album or just drag an image file into the area.

Other Windows Folks: Pants Party has penned some instructions and also done a Ask Team Vox article about it, so between those two, you should find something useful.
